TYPES OF DOCUMENTS
Car Title (DMV)
You will need to have your Car Title from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Apostilled if you:
- Had your vehicle recovered from being in a foreign country
- Are shipping your vehicle to a foreign country and need to register it there
- Have sold your vehicle to a buyer in a foreign country
- Are a foreign buyer who has purchased a vehicle from the United States of America
Selling Your Vehicle - Meet with a Notary Public in the State where the Car Title was issued and have your signature on your Car Title notarized.
Not Selling Your Vehicle - Make a color copy of your Car Title and write out an affidavit attesting that the copy is a true copy of the original in your possession and attach it to the color copy. Then meet with a Notary Public in the State where the Car Title was issued and have your signature notarized.
United States Citzens Outside the United States - Visit the closest United States Embassy and meet with a Notary Public there. Please note - most notarizations are by appointment.
The local DMV can also provide guidance on the notarization process.
A mobile Notary Public can also meet you at the local DMV to certify a copy of the Car Title.
In order for us to process your Car Title, you must mail in the original signed and notarized copy to our office. Some States may call this notarial act a Copy Certification while others will have you write out a statement and sign it in front of the Notary (Jurat). If a Copy Certification is not allowed in your State for this type of notarial act, you can simply:
- Write this statement on the color copied document: "I certify that this copy is a copy of the original."
- Sign, date, and print your name on the color copied document.
We recommend that you find a knowledgeable Notary who will be able to assist you with this type of notarial act.
Once we receive your documents, in order to minimize errors and processing time, we verify all documents received from notaries before submitting them to be Apostilled. We will contact you as soon as possible if any errors are encountered and we will instruct you on how they need to be corrected. A Car Title can only be Apostilled in the State the document was issued, signed, and notarized in.
Obtaining an Apostille can be a complicated process and should not be left to someone who does not understand all of the steps involved. Untrained persons that do not understand all of the requirements for legalization in each country are more likely to make errors, which will severely delay the Apostille process and cost you more money.
Once the original English Car Title is properly prepared you can mail them to us to be Apostilled. We can also provide Certified Translation Services into the language required by the Country of Designation.
