TYPES OF DOCUMENTS
Driver's License
You will need to have your Driver's License from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Apostilled if you would like to drive in another country with your United States Driver's License.
1. Meet with a Notary Public
A knowledgable Notary Public near you, should be able to assist you in with the Copy Certification process which includes making a color copy of your States Driver's License. Driver's Licenses can only be Apostilled by the State who issued the license. In other words, the Secretary of State does not have the authority to Apostille a Driver's License that was issued from another State. Therefore, you will need to have your Driver's License notarized in the State that it was issued.
Some States may call this notarial act a Copy Certification while others will have you write out a statement and sign it in front of the Notary (Jurat). If a Copy Certification is not allowed in your State for this type of notarial act, you can simply:
- Write this statement on the color copied document: "I certify that this copy is a copy of the original."
- Sign, date, and print your name on the color copied document.
We recommend that you find a knowledgeable Notary who will be able to assist you with this type of notarial act.
If you are not located in the United States, you will need the assistance of someone who is located in the same State where your Driver's License is issued. You will need this person to:
- Color copy your Driver's License
- Certify your Driver's License with a Notary Public in the State it was issued.
- The Notary must also have the original Driver's License in order to perform the notarization.
2. Mail Your Original Notarized Copy to Our Office
Do not mail us your original Driver's License. Only mail in the notarized color copy as instructed with all other necessary Apostille forms.
In order for us to process your Driver's License, you must mail in the original signed and notarized color copy to our office. Once we receive your documents, in order to minimize errors and processing time, we will verify that all documents received from notaries before submitting them to be Apostilled. We will contact you as soon as possible if any errors are encountered and we will instruct you on how they need to be corrected.
Obtaining an Apostille can be a complicated process and should not be left to someone who does not understand all of the steps involved. Untrained persons that do not understand all of the requirements for legalization in each country are more likely to make errors, which will severely delay the Apostille process and cost you more money.
Once the original English Driver's License color copy is properly prepared you can mail it to us to be Apostilled. We can also provide Certified Translation Services into the language required by the Country of Designation.
